The whole conference will be live-streamed, recorded, transcribed, and summarised. Our goal is to crystallise the essence of the discussions into structured, accessible insights, sharpening our collective focus on the critical issues at hand and paving the way for actionable solutions.

The Premise

On Day 1, we tackle the pressing question: Is our relentless pursuit of growth the root of today's global challenges? While free market capitalism and growth have historically uplifted billions, this focus is showing its limits, especially in the West. Here, more growth increasingly translates to existential threats, environmental degradation, and a disconnect from what truly enriches human life. We aim to explore the impact of this growth obsession and question if it's time for a paradigm shift. By day's end, we seek to understand whether rethinking our growth-centric approach could pave the way for a more sustainable and meaningful future.

Day 1

AGENDA

The IDEAL

Day 2 shifts our focus towards defining our desired destination: What does the ideal outcome look like, and what are we truly optimising for? Understanding that a clearer future cannot be charted without a shared vision, we delve into the complexities of articulating this ideal. Acknowledging what our future should not entail is perhaps a simpler task—it is not one of tyranny, oppression, depression, hopelessness, meaninglessness, or anxiety; nor is it a future marked by mass farming, habitat loss, or extinction for Earth's other inhabitants. Crucial to this conversation is a realistic examination of how emerging technologies will reshape our lives. Incorporating these realities, we aim to foster a profound discussion about crafting an ideal future for humanity, one that harmoniously integrates technological advancements with the well-being of all Earth's inhabitants.

Day 2

Challanges

On Day 3, we delve into the critical challenges on our path to transformative change. How do we navigate an economy dependent on growth, implement effective measures like a carbon tax, and manage the disruptive potential of AI in the job market? Our discussions will focus on identifying viable paths through these interconnected issues, questioning whether significant change requires upheaval or if there are strategies for peaceful progress. We aim to uncover actionable solutions that address these hurdles, facilitating a move towards a sustainable and equitable future.

Day 3

Solutions

Day 4 delves into the mechanics of societal transformation, emphasising the spread of ideas as catalysts for global change. We'll start by showcasing uplifting examples of how innovative thinking has reshaped societies, aiming to instil a belief in the power of positive change. The discussions will revolve around cultivating the right culture for individual and collective growth, alongside crafting compelling narratives to propagate transformative ideas. In the afternoon, the spotlight turns to leveraging technology's potential to supercharge our initiatives, drawing from technologists' insights on digital breakthroughs. The day rounds off with a focused dialogue on honing our narratives and strategies, setting the stage for a coherent, actionable blueprint for change.

Day 4

Actions

On Day 5, the closing day of our conference, we pivot from theoretical frameworks to actionable strategies. Our aim is to pinpoint the most significant gaps in our collective thinking throughout the week and translate these insights into tangible steps, ensuring we make substantial progress by the next Of(x) conference. To guide this transition, we'll draw on the expertise of seasoned technologists and company builders who will share how a well-defined goal and a compelling "why" can rally people together to drive monumental change. This day is about converting inspiration into action, equipping attendees with the tools and motivation needed to enact real-world impacts.
